OOPSLA '93 Workshop on Object-Oriented Reflection and Metalevel Architectures SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS We are (strongly) encouraging electronic submissions for this workshop. We plan to make the position statements available to most all workshop participants via electronic means. We also plan to make an informal "electronic samizdat" proceedings available to other interested parties. In order for electronic distribution to work, your position statement or paper should be submitted using a format that as wide an audience as possible will be able to read and print. As insurance, we are asking that you submit either an ASCII version of your paper, or at least an ASCII abstract, as well. The following formats have proven to be reasonably portable: * Non-printer specific POSTSCRIPT * TeX .dvi output files * Plain-text ASCII. Also, quite a few (but not all) participants can now handle manuscripts prepared using popular word processors such as MS Word and WordPerfect. Nonetheless, it is unfortunately still not possible to ensure that ANY format other than plain ASCII will can be reliably read and transmitted across the net to everyone with confidence. Therefore: If your document preparation tools easily allow the generation of an ASCII, TEXT-ONLY copy of your position paper, please submit this along with the formatted electronic copy. Most modern word processors allow the generation of ASCII only output. If your document preparation strategy makes the generation of a full-length ASCII version difficult, then please prepare an ASCII abstract, and include that with your submission. (I am assuming that the full submissions will include an abstract.) We are accepting submissions via the follow routes, in order of preference: 1) anonymous ftp to p300.cpl.uiuc.edu 2) Email to reflection-workshop@p300.cpl.uiuc.edu 3) DOS or MAC disks mailed to the address below 4) Paper hardcopies mailed to the address below Detailed instructions for each of these submission routes are as follows: 1) ANONYMOUS FTP If you have Internet ftp access, then the easiest way to submit your position is to ftp it directly to us. We have set up a directory on p300.cpl.uiuc.edu (128.174.72.1) for this purpose. It is named pub/washington/submissions. To submit a position paper you should: a) Create an archive containing containing the formatted files. b) Create a separate file containing the ASCII text of your submission or abstract. c) Copy these to the submissions directory, using the name of the first author, followed by the usual archive extensions for the archive (.tar, .tar.Z, .zip, .sit.hqx) and .txt for the plain text version. d) Send a mail message to reflection-workshop@p300.cpl.uiuc.edu with "cover letter" type information, such as your addresses, phone numbers, etc. to inform us that the submission has been made. Indicate in you mail message whether you have ftp access. 2) ELECTRONIC MAIL If you have EMAIL access, but not Internet access, then you may mail your submission directly to reflection-workshop@p300.cpl.uiuc.edu. If your submission is plain ASCII, it can be included directly after the cover information, or in a separate message. Archives encoded using uuencode or BinHex may also be sent. (I've had trouble on occasion with both of these, but we'll see how this goes.) If you do submit an encoded archive, please submit the text version or abstract separately, as per above. Please indicate in your message whether you have ftp access. 3) DISKS by REGULAR MAIL We can also handle submission on DOS and Macintosh floppies (though my Mac has only an 800K floppy, alas). Such submissions should include an archive, and the separate ASCII version. They also may as well include 1 hardcopy of your paper. 4) HARDCOPY by REGULAR MAIL We are prepared, as a last resort, to accept traditional, paper only submissions. Paper-only submissions should include six copies of your paper. Disk and paper submissions should be sent to: Brian Foote 681 Psychology Bldg. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign 603 E. Daniel Champaign, IL 61820 USA USA + (217) 333-3411 If your position paper has more than one author, please indicate in your cover message/letter how many of the authors hope to attend the workshop. Submissions should be recieved by Friday, 30 July 1993. Participants will be notified of their acceptance by 20 August 1993. Some participants will be invited to present their positions to the full workshop. Speakers will be contacted by the individual session chairs. One the behalf of all the organizers, I'd like to thank everyone for their time and interest. Brian Foote
